This isn’t the first WordPress website I’ve ever set up before, so I’m familiar with how it works, finding a theme, and configuring it. I wouldn’t say I am a pro at this but I like to think I have some knowledge about it.
Take your time!
I’m not sure about you, but I enjoy starting fresh and setting things up. I’ve chosen my theme and rather than before I’m trying to take my time setting this up, and not worrying I need to have a look and feel sorted right now! It can be a little overwhelming and of course, panic, if it doesn’t look right then rush it and it looks terrible!
This has been a bit of a downfall for me in the past, where I’ve put too much into the look and feel rather than the content itself. So if you are a regular visitor to the site please don’t be surprised if things look different each time…I know I will be tweaking for a while to come!
Choosing my theme
I like a minimal theme, so there is not too much going on, as for me it spoils it, as I’m sure for others. But then again I do like a theme that you have a lot of control over, as in fonts, colours and the layout of pages etc. I’ve gone for a theme called Munchies which allows me to do everything I mentioned above and more. It is a premium theme, but it allows me a little more control over how I can make things look and feel. So I’m hoping you like it.
Site Logo
Almost a week later after getting this site up and running, I’ve only just put together a logo for my site. I could have just created something quick and easy, but again, I didn’t want to rush anything.
It’s taken me a few days to come up with ideas, and even tried different things but, I came up with this:
I’m trying to show paper, and it’s creased…can you see where I’m going with this? Hopefully, you can. I just wanted something simple and tried to use the colour scheme I’d chosen for the theme of this website.
I used Affinity Designer 2 to create this logo, I’ve been using Affinity’s software for quite some time now since version 1, and I love the software. They also do Photo and Publisher as well, and they are fantastic alternatives to Adobe’s Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
Will I change the design of the logo? I’m not sure, I am happy with it, but can I do something a little better? I’m not sure. This could be because I am comparing another logo I created some years ago.
As I mentioned at the start of this post, I’ve had another site in the past. It was called “Peony Gate”. Again, it was about crafting, but I stopped working on it and then decided to shut it down. I thought, at the time this was because I wasn’t interested in crafting and bookbinding anymore. But now looking back, it was because I was struggling with my mental health.
As you can see from above this is a different type of logo, I created it on paper with watercolour pencils, and watercolour paintings are my favourite style. I know it’s because of this that I am being a little critical of my new logo.
But time will tell if I design something else with the logo.
